Whiskers and Leo's Pledge Page for Carole, Andy and Pippy

Carole and Andy are one of those special couples when you meet them, they just exude kindness.

We were lucky enough to meet Carole, Andy and Pippy back in the beginning of 2009. They were one of our first customers when we started our company, Whiskers and Leo Pet Care in Staten Island, NY. Pippy is a cute little Westie, and he is a service dog for Carole and Andy. Carole was born deaf due to complications at birth, and Andy at the age of 3, became deaf after a sickness.

From early 2009 until the present, we have been lucky enough to walk and board Pippy when his parents are busy at work or away visiting their children either in Oregon or Florida. Pippy is their everything, so they make sure Pippy is well taken care of!

Carole is a teacher at ______. Andy is __________. Carole has lived in their house on Tarlton Steet in New Dorp, Staten Island, since birth. Her grandmother built the house in 1926.

When it was time to evacuate because of Hurricane Sandy (their house is in an Evacuation A Zone), they did so begrudgingly. They have no family on Staten Island, and had no friends to turn to, so our pet sitter, Jeanine, opened her arms and home to them. Well, as you all know, no one expected what happened next to happen.

Carole and Andy had learned that one 14 foot wave came in and wiped away their home and everything they ever knew. The wave destroyed their house, and moved it off their original foundation. Their shed was destroyed too and washed yards away. Their house was eventually red tagged by the city, and has since been demolished. Luckily, some items (like _____) were salvigable from the second floor, but most of their more important items were destroyed on the first floor.

So far, Carole and Andy have been responsible for paying for all the demolition work and even had to pay to cut off services from their home, even though it was red tapped, like water, etc. Unfortunately, they did not have the proper flood insurance.

This is just one story, of the many thousands of devastated lives out there because of Hurricane Sandy. Our hearts do go out to everyone that was affected.

If you can find it in your heart, to help this family.
